Description

HEACOTEX FCW Constant Wattage Heating Cable

FCW is a constant wattage parallel circuit heating cable with many industrial applications, mainly designed for heat-tracing pipes and other equipment. It offers an economical alternative to self-regulating heating cables, but requires more skill for installation as well as more advanced control and monitoring systems.

The heating cables are zone parallel heaters constructed from a heating element wrapped around two parallel conductors. The distance between conductor contact points forms the heating zone length. The parallel construction allows the cable to be cut-to-length and terminated in the field. FCW heating cables can withstand routine steam purges and temperature exposure up to 205°C when power is off.

  2. FEP insulation on bus-wires
  3. Pairing coating securing bus-wires and providing wrapping surface
  4. Nickel chromium heating wire — the heating element
  5. FEP outer insulation — rugged sheath protecting against environmental hazards
  6. Tinned copper braid — mechanical protection and ground path
  7. FEP over-coating — protection against aqueous and chemically corrosive solutions

A 30 mA residual current device is required for maximum safety. Full range of components available (power connections, splices, terminal seals). Contact Heacotex for circuit length estimation and specification advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is a constant wattage heating cable?

A constant wattage heating cable produces the same power output per metre regardless of ambient temperature. It is more economical than self-regulating cables for applications requiring uniform heat at higher temperatures.

What wattages are FCW available in?

FCW is available in 10, 20, 30 and 40 W/m output, all operating on 230 V AC.

What is the maximum exposure temperature of FCW?

FCW can withstand exposure up to 205°C (400°F) when the power is off, and routine steam purges. Maximum maintenance temperature varies by wattage — from 60°C (FCW-40) up to 150°C (FCW-10).

Is FCW suitable for hazardous areas?

Yes — FCW is suitable for Hazardous Zone 1, Zone 2 (Gas), Zone 21 and Zone 22 (Dust) installations.

Can FCW be cut to length?

Yes — the parallel construction allows FCW to be cut to length and terminated in the field. Use the recommended power connections, splices and terminal seals.
